Description

Species Origin: Pacific Northwest, USA

Cap: 5-25+cm in diameter, Dark brown to light brown to tan often darker in center. Remnants of universal veil leaving white warts on cap surface.

Stem: White, tapering upward with a basal bulb, partial veil forming a membranous ring.

Gills: White

Spores: White, 9-13 by 6.5-9 micrometers, elliptical and smooth.

Comments: Since this is a mycorrhizal species that naturally grows only in association with certain trees it would be extremely difficult cultivate under laboratory conditions. We are not aware of any information regarding the germination of spores. Mycelium will grow on PDYA (potato dextrose yeast agar).

This species has the same compounds as Amanita muscaria but in much higher amounts.
