Habitat: Enriched Soils, Grasslands
Climate: Warm temperate

Strain Origin: Georgia, USA

Initially, this sample was described as Psilocybe atlantis and we assumed that was correct since no similar species were known in Georgia. Samples sent to Psilocybe expert Gaston Guzman cast some doubt on the mushroom's actual identity, but no alternative identification was suggested. Microscopically, the collection was considered similar to Psilocybe galindoi (galindii), a species previously known only from Mexico, and, for lack of a better name, has been identified as such for years.

Recent genetic testing has revealed this collection to be a variety of Psilocybe tampanensis, a species previously only known to occur in the state of Florida.

Strain ATL#7 is noted for forming large sclerotia.
