Psilocybe samuiensis : Spore Print
Description
Spores supplied as spore prints on heavy foil. Packaged individually, and guaranteed clean and stable. Spore print size and density may vary based on species and variety. Habitat: Sandy soil in manured ground, rice paddies and meadows. Climate: Tropical Origin: Thailand, 2 km west of Ban Hua Thanon, Koh Samui. 1991 John Allen Collection. Cap: 7-1.5 mm in diameter. Reddish orange when young and wet, margin striate, hygrophanous Stem: Slightly thickened at base Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Clay coloration in young fruit bodies becoming violaceous brown with white edges at spore maturity. Spores: (9.4) 10.0-12.6 (13.3) µm in length. Subrhomboid in face-view, broadly ellipsoid or subellipsoid in side-view with a thick wall and a broad flattened germ pore. Spore print coloration is violaceus brown. Comments: Known only from the type locality. This is the first recorded species in the Section Mexicanae outside of the Americas. Microscopic examination shows pleurocystidia that are slightly larger than reported in the published description but is otherwise a good match. Forms tiny sclerotia in culture.
