Psilocybe cf. antioquiensis : Siem Reap, Cambodia Spore Print
Description
Psilocybe cf. antioquiensis (P. angkoria sp. nov.): Siem Reap, Cambodia Spores supplied as spore prints on heavy foil. Packaged individually, and guaranteed clean and stable. Spore print size and density may vary based on species and variety. Habitat: Sandy soil in manured ground Strain Origin: Siem Reap, Cambodia, John Allen Collection, August 2003 Cap: 5-10 mm in diameter, convex expanding to broadly convex to nearly plane with age. Dry, bruising bluish green. Stem: 50+ mm in length. Typically equal, sometimes slightly enlarged at base, sometimes contorted. Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becoming darker with spore maturity. Spores: Dark purplish brown Comments: Initially proposed as the new species Psilocybe angkoria sp. nov. (Sihanonth and Allen) in 2003. it was later “identified” as P. antioquiensis by Dr. Gaston Guzman. P. antioquiensis was formerly reported from Mexico and South America and the identification of the Cambodian material is now suspect. The holotype from Columbia has yet to be genetically sequenced, but based on published microscopy, it is likely a synonym of P. mexicana (Section Mexicanae). The material offered here was sequenced and is the equivalent of sample “Allen C” in Section Zapotecorum. Without the holotype sequence for a direct comparison for species confirmation, we will label this sample as Psilocybe cf. antioquiensis. It is likely an undescribed species and may go back to its originally proposed name of P. angkoria which we don’t think was ever actually published. Although laboratory specimens resemble P. mexicana, P. antioquiensis has not been observed to form sclerotia and is not closely related. NOTE: The spore prints offered here are fairly light with visible but low spore deposits. Samples may contain multiple prints.
