On the first day of every month, Spore Works Lab releases a limited quantity of mushroom spore or culture material from rare, interesting, and exotic varieties. These represent the ongoing efforts of our dedicated team towards collection, taxonomy, and species/strain development, and are offered at a discount to encourage further investigation. Quantities are limited, as new features will be announced and rotated each month.

Spores provided in sterile aqueous solution using 10cc BD Luer-Lok syringes. One 1.5in 16ga needle will be provided for each spore filled syringe.

El Choco was isolated in 2020 by Dave Wombat from the TAT Syndicate Facebook group, as a random mutation of the common B+ variety. This somewhat unstable variety can exhibit a much darker colored (hyperpigmented) and hairy (fibrillose) cap than a typical Ps. cubensis, particularly in later flushes. Odd mutants appear commonly in fruitings.

Habitat: Bovine, Equine Dung and Enriched Soils
Climate: Subtropical

Strain Origin: Unknown

Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed. Grayish coloration in young fruit bodies becoming nearly black in maturity.

Spores: Dark purplish brown, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia.
